Macro call - Infoedge has differentiated itself in the b2c internet space by focusing on essentials (jobs, homes etc) and ensured the businesses are structured such that they get paid by the business and not the consumer. 40 P/E is not such a high price to pay in an underpenetrated internet mkt like India.

Only 33% of the 33000 MW capacity coming up is gas-based. Most projects seem to be well on track in terms of financial closure, procurement and execution. Current market cap implies PV of INR 1 cr per MW, which is too low. Execution risks have reduced considerably - This is a buy for the long term.

Reversing stance. Over the last 3 quarters, Suzlon has managed to get over their liquidity crisis and sort out issues with respect to quality of blades etc. Suzlon is among the 5 top wind turbine manufacturers which own crucial parts of the supply chain (like gear boxes and hi-capacity turbines). Do not want to miss out on a re-rating!

Accumulating at less than 40 levels. Strong stable company involved in 3 (related) businesses: stationary, printing textbooks and e-learning. Stable business in printing textbooks (whenever syllabus changes) and in stationary business. The huge upside is in e-learning, where they have 500 schools using their e-learning modules.

As per valuation comments in one of the blogs on this site, 36 is a very high price to pay for this company - their existing tariffs are very low and there is a virtual exodus of experienced project staff into private companies willing to pay for the talent. Target 28.

Reversing stance...This stock looks far too overpriced to fair value...And it is not some growth story with an elastic demand-supply model. It takes 6 years to build a hydro plant and JPHydro has none in the pipeline. I stand by my valuation of 45 - 50. SHORT.

With the CERC saying it is open to consider upward revision to the 4p a unit cap on trading margins, there is a high likelihood this company could increase market cap by 30-40%.

Only 3%-3.5% of generated electricity (21 bn units of 660 bn units) was traded last year. As this percentage is set to increase in the coming years, PTC with 45% market share is likely to be the biggest beneficiary.

Considering only the company's core revenue - sales on 88% of generated power (12% free power to state), a Plant Load Factor of 48%, no escalation in tariff (Rs 2.74/unit), full debt re-payment by 2017 (100cr per annum), no benefit for depreciation advances taken out of revenue, I get an equity valuation of 1,470 cr as opposed to last close mcap of 1525cr.

I have used 12% discount rate for cashflows to equity...at 48% PLF assumption, BASPA-II may not warrant that high a discount rate.

I have assigned zero value to Jaypee Powergrid Ltd, which is currently laying a 200km transmission lines in HP (in association with PowerGrid), given no benefit for other projects that JP Hydro can take up on account of completion of Baspa-II and no escalation in power prices.

JP Hydro is a Buy at these levels.

For same reasons as ICRA. 12.5 P/E for a business with zero-debt, high barrier to entry, 25% net margin and a vast untapped market where borrowers will go any lengths to prove credit-worthiness and banks will use more due diligence - This one's for the long haul.

65% gross margin and 42% net margin in a business where barrier to entry remains high.
While there is lot of talk of Moody's, S&P becoming redundant after the sub-prime crisis, my perception is that these companies will be become more relevant, albeit more cautious.
What does that mean? At a global level, that will mean an end to the structured credit rating business (CDOs etc), which was their major growth engine over the last 6 years.
At an Indian level, not much has changed in industry as there never was any structured credit market. If anything, we might see:
a) An increase in companies getting themselves rated (and banks buying more information)
b) A small reduction in margin as rating agencies spend more on internal quality controls.

At a P/E of 12.5, the market is pricing in the same P/E as it does for the parent company (Moody's). Following klooloola's lead: Seems we have a decent long-term investment here.

Changing stance...
Till now, this iron ore, aluminum and zinc sectors were moving in direct correlation with metal prices...now the problem starts on the operational front. Steel manufacturers will reduce output by at least 30-40%...so with large capex having gone into sesa's subsidiaries, there is surplus capacity sitting on the books. Reducing costs via layoff could turn out to be a politically sensitive issue. Expect this stock to underperform the market.

P/E of 1.95 looks cheap...but doesn't mean ****. But then, in this mkt you have to place confidence where it is due. The company looks ok..decent management, decent strengths...why not??

Low levels of debt when compared to peers. Also, they seem to have employee and other non-commodity related costs under control. With commodity prices softening, I expect their profitability to improve.

Beaten down to death...their current asset situation is not so bad...sitting on 100cr of cash and 400cr of advances. Does not look like a company that will go bankrupt. A couple of bad quarters will not mean end of the world.

Contrarian...
Cash sales increased last quarter, but I think this is a temporary trend. With growing uncertainty and dwindling confidence, sales are going to reduce drastically.

Bearish on smaller banks for the near-term. Mkt hasn't
factored in the entire crisis in the valuation of smaller
baks.
